Our client, Meteor Communications (www.meteorcommunications.co.uk) design, manufacture and install innovative systems for environmental monitoring, specifically focused on the water quality and flood defences markets. Meteor’s clients include most of the UK’s water utilities, the Environment Agency and local authorities.

Meteor has designed, in-house, unique hardware technologies for environmental monitoring:

  • ESNET – a quick deployable complete water quality monitoring station that delivers real time data from any location. Easy to install, ESNET is a complete solution for monitoring water quality in rivers and reservoirs as well as monitoring water treatment and wastewater quality. Its systems provide measurement of key water quality parameters to enable monitoring of pollution events and optimise treatment processes.
  • MRC – a low power remote camera system capturing reliable real time images from any location even with poor mobile signal. The cameras reduce scheduled inspection visits and enable a proactive response to flood events. They are carbon neutral in operation and provide water utilities with remote asset monitoring.
  • MeteorCloud® - secure portal access to analyse and disseminate environmental data. Hosted in the UK using Meteor’s own servers, MeteorCloud® enables users to access water quality data, flow, level, rainfall, weather and image data in real time from any tablet, PC or smartphone.

The business has enjoyed exceptional growth year on year through its strong relationships with UK water utility companies, the Environment Agency and numerous environmental consultancies. Further growth will come from growing its international activities particularly across Europe and North America.

Meteor is a proud participant of Innovate UK Business Growth’s highly regarded Scaleup Programme and benefits from the tailored support this provides. Participation in the Scaleup Programme is only available to scaleup companies achieving, or with the potential for, 50% CAGR.

It is now looking to add a Non-Executive Director to the board to support it through its next, exciting phase of development. The role represents a fantastic opportunity for a Non-Executive Director to work with a fast-growth, technology business as it continues to scale.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have held senior general management roles in the technology/services sector.
  • Have successfully scaled a business in the technology/services sector as a Chair, CEO, MD, Non-Executive Director or Sales & Marketing Director.
  • Have experience of building an international business (particularly Europe and North America) and be willing to use this experience to develop Meteor’s international reach.
  • Have experience of working with/for corporate utility and energy companies.
  • Have had some exposure to the water utilities space.
